Yoo Myung-hee, former Chief Trade Negotiator of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, has emphasized the need for strengthened consultations between Korea and Vietnam to reflect the situation of Korean companies in Vietnam during trade negotiations with the United States. Yoo highlighted the risk of increased tariffs due to Vietnam’s trade deficit with the US and its perceived role as a base for China’s indirect exports. He also suggested that Vietnam should aim for sustainable growth through diversification of import and export structures, and that Korea and Vietnam should cooperate in the fields of trade, investment, and finance, including enhancing the utilization rate of the Korea-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement and resolving difficulties for Korean financial institutions entering Vietnam.
