The Nano Materials Research Division at the Korea Institute of Materials Science has developed a rare-earth-free permanent magnet, achieving the highest performance globally. The technology is being transferred to a domestic magnet manufacturing company, Novatech, and is expected to be the first case of a rare-earth-free manganese-bismuth (Mn-Bi) permanent magnet being used industrially. The team developed a low-temperature sintering process that allows for high density and mass production, which can be applied to various industries such as electric vehicle motors, generators, and semiconductor components.
