The Nano Material Research Division of the Korea Institute of Materials Science has developed a rare-earth-free permanent magnet, achieving the highest performance globally. The technology is being transferred to a domestic magnet manufacturing company, ‘Novatech’, and if commercialized, it would be the first industrial application of a rare-earth-free manganese-bismuth (Mn-Bi) permanent magnet. The research team developed a low-temperature sintering process that overcomes the limitations of oxidation or decomposition, allowing for high density and mass production.
