The Korea Consumer Agency has urged restaurants to comply with operational regulations as a significant number of them are allowing pets to enter without proper hygiene and safety management systems. A survey conducted on 19 restaurants revealed issues such as open entrances to kitchens, lack of ventilation measures, and absence of covers to prevent foreign substances from entering the food. The current Food Sanitation Act prohibits the entry of pets into restaurants, but the government is conducting a regulatory sandbox pilot project to test the ‘Guidelines for the Entry of Pets into Food Service Establishments’ in 2023.
