LS Materials, in collaboration with LS Cable & System, has developed South Korea’s first Hybrid Energy Storage System (H-ESS) for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. The H-ESS addresses issues of power overload, fire risk, and high infrastructure costs, by combining capacitors specialized for fast charging with lithium-ion batteries. The system, developed as part of a national project to enhance EV charging infrastructure, has a lifespan 5 to 10 times longer than existing Energy Storage Systems (ESS), reduces installation area and costs, and can stably charge multiple vehicles even during peak times.
