Japan’s Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. has confirmed plans to cut its workforce by 20,000, or 15% of its total employees, due to poor performance. The company had previously announced a reduction of 9,000 jobs and a 20% decrease in global production capacity, but has now decided to cut an additional 11,000 jobs due to lower than expected sales. Nissan has also withdrawn plans to establish an electric vehicle battery factory in Kitakyushu City, Kyushu, and is facing declining brand value in the US, difficulties in launching new models, and decreased sales in China due to intense competition in the electric vehicle market.
