In 2024, the sales of South Korea’s top five groups accounted for 40% of the country’s GDP, while the sales of large corporate groups made up 78.8% of the economy. This is a slight decrease from the 85% mark surpassed in 2022. The sales of the top five groups, including Samsung, SK, Hyundai Motor, LG, and Lotte, totaled 1,025 trillion won. Samsung Group alone accounted for 13.0% of South Korea’s GDP. The proportion of large corporate group sales to GDP has been decreasing since 2018, but surged during the COVID-19 pandemic due to their high crisis response capabilities.
