The National Assembly’s Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee in South Korea has passed a revision of the ‘Special Act on Metropolitan Transportation Management’ (Daegwang Act) to include cities with a population of 500,000 or more that are provincial office seats in the metropolitan area. The revision was proposed by members of the People Power Party, despite reluctance from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Strategy and Finance. The revised Daegwang Act, which aims to address transportation issues in metropolitan cities, is expected to pass the standing committee and the legal committee, given the Democratic Party’s majority.
