The Korea Institute of Materials Science has developed a rare-earth-free permanent magnet, marking the highest performance in the world. The technology, which uses a low-temperature sintering process, is being transferred to domestic magnet manufacturing company, Novatech, and is expected to be the first industrial application of a rare-earth-free manganese-bismuth (Mn-Bi) permanent magnet. The technology could be applied to various industries such as electric vehicle motors, generators, and semiconductor components, and could replace magnets used in large quantities in everyday life and industry, reducing dependence on rare earth magnets.
